This was my last actual assignment for the year and while I was shooting Spring Show I realized I still have a lot to learn. I had never shot dance before and it took me a while to figure out that while something may look cool in person, in a photo it just looks awkward. So, on top of my ever changing settings I attempted to get graceful pictures that truly captured the dance. I got some pretty good ones, but this is definitely one of my very favorites.

I took this picture at one of my earlier football games. It didn't take me long to figure out that while I can pull off some pretty decent pictures, football is not my strong suit. So, instead of being upset that I'm not great at something, I used my environment to do something I am pretty good at. Portraits. So much is said in environmental portraits in a language that I understand so much more than in a sports/action picture.

This was my last home game to shoot and I knew that my girls had the field covered so I made my way to the stands to get pictures of the band and drill team. I had a blast. The band kids are crazy and so much fun to take pictures of. My friend Heather and her friend Alex were especially crazy so I took the picture above. I have mixed feelings about it by Woodsies said to put it in here, so I did.

Swim happens to be the one sport I'm pretty good at. Ashley is a very photographic swimmer, I have a million good pictures of him, but this one's my favorite. i love the water around his face and the pivotal moment that he's at. i only got to shoot swim a few times so I hope next year I can take an even better picture.

This assignment was what made me realize portraits are my strong area. This was my first time using off camera flash and poor Claire stuck with me the whole time.  I had a flash in a soft box umbrella on 1/4 power on the left side and then I held a reflector on the right side of her face to lighten up the right side but still have the shadows. I finally know what I'm doing with strobes now and it started with this picture.

This was a picture that I wanted to do since before I got into photography and I did early on this year. When I first took it I was so excited and proud of it and while I still like it I see so many things that I would change about it if I were to redo it. I didn't use any of my knowledge of lighting and I feel like I really could have strengthened this picture but I still love the story telling element of it.

This is my elephant, Ellie. I like this picture and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the depth of field, maybe it's the obscurity of it, or maybe it's because I have obsession with elephants. But I just like it and I have since I've taken it.

This picture was something that I mimicked from one I saw on stumble upon. I like the mystery of this picture and the story it tells. I didn't have a flash so i used a flash light to light her and that's when I realized not to freak out when I don't have the supplies I need, I just need to be innovative, which is something we have definitely been good at this year.

I took this picture in New York at the 9/11 memorial on St. Patrick's day. It was really upsetting and humbling to see the family members there leaving things at the names of people that they will never get to see again. I like this picture because it makes you wonder who left that for Randolph and what him and that person used to do on St. Patrick's day.

This picture holds a special place in my heart. I worked four hours to get this picture perfect. The only editing I did was smooth out the background and I'm very proud of that. I had to tackle so many different problems to take this picture and it gave me a lot of confidence as a photographer.

I already discussed my favorite picture in the paragraph above, so I'm going to talk about why i stayed in Commercial Photography and  my future plans. I stayed in Commercial Photography because it's something I love. I'm so excited about being Photo Editor next year because I get the chance to use my love for photography by making sure the yearbook contains the best pictures our photographers have to offer.I also plan to use what I learn next year to help me in my future career. My plan is to major in Graphic Design but remain a photographer for my school's newspaper or yearbook. During college I hope to have had an internship so when I graduate I can get a job in graphic design and do photography on the side. My dream is that one day I will work for a magazine and travel the world taking pictures.
